Backstage
In 2001, Matthew Kreiner debuted his compelling directing talents when he collaborated with the UAlbany Theatre Council to present “One Hour to Live”. Since then, he has continuously striven to provide entertaining and thoughtful productions by any means necessary that has kept audiences coming back for more.
That was the purpose of the creation of Old Guinea Productions. Matthew refused to let the lack of theatrical options in his hometown of Rockland County keep him from engaging in his life’s passion, so when opportunities were sparse, he made opportunities. And with that, he produced and directed “Chapter Two” by Neil Simon in Nyack, NY with overwhelming success and rave reviews from the audience. Matthew continued to produce and direct theatre in Albany, NY as well as directing in New York City until he graduated from the University at Albany with a specialization in theatre direction and lighting.
With a need to expand and broaden his horizons, he spent the next two years working in production for independent films in New York City that starred Queen Latifah, John Leguizamo, Matthew Modine, and Terrence Howard. With this knowledge, he took Old Guinea Productions into another realm of entertainment when he produced and directed his short, “Four Boys and a Game of Risk”.
Matthew has since worked closely with many Off-Off Broadway theatre companies including Endtimes Productions and Rising Sun Performance Company. His work can been seen on the annual "Vignettes of the Apocalypse" and "Naked Holiday" festivals produced by Endtimes Productions and recently credits himself making his Off-Off Broadway debut with "Dead Lawyers" by George Larkin.
Matthew's current artistic obsession is heading up the Freedom Instinct Project, or FIT, with a few of the most talented actors he's worked with. The project is designed to find a proper fusion of improvisation and scripted work to create a unique and startlingly accessible form of theatre. For more information on FIT you can check out the details available on this website.
Presently, Matthew continues to strive towards high quality theatre and film that can entertain a modern day audience with material that relates and inspires them. With the training and talent necessary, Matthew plans to continue to strive towards excellence in the arts in a variety of ways.
